The Australian Embassy in Cambodia will support the generation of up 450 megawatts of solar energy by 2022, as the sun is one of the most economical and environmentally friendly energy sources on earth.

Cambodia has a lot of potential for solar energy that can be used to produce up to 44,000 megawatts of solar energy, the embassy said on May 31, based on a study sponsored by the Australian Government.

According to the Australian Embassy, the Cambodian government has adopted a fixed level of solar energy and is committed to installing 450 megawatts of solar energy by 2022.

Australia commends this goal, and is setting aside up to $49 million to help assess the country’s renewable energy potential, including solar, wind and hydropower, as well as developing energy strategies.
