At the upcoming World Economic Forum (WEF), Cambodia is expected to promote the reopening of domestic tourism and ASEAN tourism, as well as the promotion of safe tourism destinations in the country. The government has implemented an effective vaccination tourism strategy.

This expectation comes after a working meeting between Lee Joo-Ok, Asia Pacific Program Director and Member of the Executive Committee of the World Economic Forum (WEF), with Pak Sokhom, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism, representing the Minister, Thong Khon on March 4, at the Ministry of Tourism.

The World Economic Forum (WEF) will be held in May 2022 in Davos, Switzerland, with a panel discussion on ASEAN experiences. This was confirmed by Li Zhou, representative of the World Economic Forum.

Lee invited the leaders of the Ministry of Tourism to attend the upcoming World Economic Forum to present Cambodia’s tourism destinations, the effectiveness of the management of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the country’s tourism strategy.

The representatives of the World Economic Forum also promised to help promote Cambodia’s tourism sector during the World Economic Forum.

At the meeting, Pak Sokhom mentioned the Royal Government’s strategy to vaccinate the people, which is the key to reopening economic activities and reopening international tourism.

“Cambodia is now considered a safe tourism destination,” he told the World Economic Forum.

The Secretary of State also outlined the vision as well as the planning for the restoration and promotion of tourism through the careful implementation of the roadmap on the restoration and promotion of tourism in Cambodia during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Representatives of the World Economic Forum congratulated and praised the successful organisation of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2022 and in particular, laying down the common spirit of ASEAN in reopening ASEAN tourism.

Li Zhou vowed to promote the spirit of ASEAN tourism as well as the growth of ASEAN tourism in the World Economic Forum.

With the support of the World Economic Forum, the spokesman of the Ministry of Tourism, Try Chhiv, stated that “Cambodia will be able to show the world more of its achievements and activities in leading the ASEAN Chairmanship.”

Try Chhiv said that the World Economic Forum and the Ministry of Tourism also agreed to promote the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia to be a catalyst in promoting regional tourism in Cambodia and encourage widespread international travel again.
