Cambodia has sought India’s support for its bid to modernise the country’s agriculture sector and raise farm productivity through the effective use of latest technology.

During a meeting with Sanjay C. Kirloskar, the Chairman and Managing Director of Kirloskar Group, one of India’s leading companies, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Veng Sakhon explained the vision of Cambodia to raise its agriculture production for meeting the growing demand due to population growth and economic and social progress.

The ministry, he said, has been encouraging farmers and the private sector to use modern agricultural technology to raise production.

Meanwhile, the minister sought the company’s support to make available India’s latest and advanced technology to raise the productivity of various crops, fruits, vegetables and livestock in Cambodia.

The minister also expressed support for the two main objectives of the company — reducing the production cost of the farm and making farming easier with the use of technology and effective environmental engineering.

The minister hoped that the Agricultural Development Policy (Agricultural Modernization) of 2022-2030 would turn Cambodia into a high middle-income country by 2030.

The minister recommended that the company continue to work with – the General Directorate of Agriculture to see the successful implementation of a proposed project to modernise the farming sector.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of Kirloskar said that the company’s technical team would strive to make the project underway in the near future and meet the Cambodian farmers’ requirements. He hoped that the farmers would benefit greatly from the use of the technology.
