Cambodia earned more than $77 million from the export of rubber and rubberwood in the first two months of this year, according to the General Directorate of Rubber.

The revenue from Cambodia rubber exports reached more than $76 million, while the revenue from rubberwood stood at $355,946.

In February 2022, Cambodia rubber production rose six per cent to 48,509 tonnes, compared to last year’s same month. The report indicated that the volume of wood rubber exports surged 66 percent to 808 cubic metres.

As of February, the average selling price of Cambodia rubber fell by $2 per tonne to $1,585 per tonne. The total rubber area is 404,044 hectares, of which 310,193 hectares are rubber plantations, while the maintenance area is 93,851 hectares.

At the meeting with the General Department of Agriculture, General Department of Animal Health and Animal Production and General Department of Rubber to review the performance, Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said that the agricultural sector has been playing an important role in promoting socio-economic development, rural development and alleviating poverty.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the ministry continues to increase the productivity of natural rubber plantations and strengthen and expand family rubber farming. It will also promote the implementation of the Strategic Plan for the Development of Natural Rubber 2030 to enhance the management and sustainable development of Cambodian rubber.

Him Aun, Director of General Directorate of Rubber of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, told Khmer Times that the improvement in Cambodia rubber exports is due to the increase in Cambodia rubber plantations.

He said the main international market is China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, India and EU.

In 2021, Cambodia earned more than $611 million from exporting Cambodia rubber and rubberwood. It exported 366,300 tonnes of rubber and 454 cubic metres of rubberwood last year.
