The growing transport and logistics in Kingdom demand efficient transportation and are well connected to transport goods to ports and borders to neighbouring countries, says Sin Chanthy, president of the Cambodian Logistics Association

The United States is keen to explore investment opportunities in transport infrastructure in Cambodia, contributing to enhancing the transportation and logistics sectors as the government welcomes all foreign investors who wish to invest in the transport infrastructure in Cambodia.

The US has shown interest during a meeting between Koy Sodany, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and a delegation of the US Embassy to Cambodia led by Economic and Commercial Officer Moses An.

Sodany briefed her guests on the main transport infrastructure, road construction, railway improvement project, expressway linking between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville, as well as other infrastructure – waste water treatment plant projects.

Moses said the delegation was interested in some sectors which contribute to Cambodia’s development, one of which is the multi-connection transport.

He also asked the working groups of the two parties – Ministry of Public Works and Transport and US Department of Transportation to prepare for the upcoming discussion on main projects.

Sodany said Cambodia welcomes the projects. “The Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport is ready to work with the United States Department of Transportation to discuss the issue in more detail,” she said.

This was revealed just days after the Cambodian government invited all foreign investors who wish to invest in Cambodia’s transport infrastructure. The remarks were made in response to alleged questions of Cambodia welcoming only Chinese investments.

More than 3,000 kilometres of roads and large-scaled bridges across the river have been built with Chinese financial assistance and Chinese-invested hydropower projects have played an important role in stabilising Cambodia’s electricity supply, Prime Minister Hun Sen said at the Forum on the Future of Asia on May 27.

Sin Chanthy, president of the Cambodian Logistics Association, said that the growing transport and logistics in Cambodia demand efficient transportation and are well connected to transport goods to ports and borders to neighbouring countries – Thailand, Vietnam and Laos.

“The transportation has helped link Cambodia with its neighbouring countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and Laos,” he said. “All in all, transport infrastructure is the key element to support economic development.
