From January to Dec. 15, 2020, Cambodia has exported some 945,274 tonnes of fresh mangoes to foreign markets, with an estimated total value of some $473,207,700.

The figures were shared in a preliminary report on the progress of major agro-industrial crop production in 2020, by Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The report did not specify the export destinations, but mentioned that there were 47 exporting companies. Meanwhile, it pointed outs, 48 others – 33 companies, 3 communities, and 12 farm owners – have applied for the mango export to international markets.

More than 100,000 hectares of land in Cambodia are being used to grow mangoes, especially in Kampong Speu, Kampot, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey provinces, and about 1.5 million tonnes of the fruit could be harvested annually.

So far Cambodia’s fresh mangoes are exported to the markets in the European Union, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

Cambodia’s new markets in China are expected to absorb about 500,000 tonnes of fresh mangoes every year. Phal Sophanith – AKP
