Vattanac Brewery Ltd, a subsidiary of Vattanac Group, a prominent business in Cambodia, yesterday broke ground for the construction of a nearly $140 million brewery factory in Cambodia.

The brewery will be in Robos Angkanh village Sangkat Prek Eng, Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh, after receiving approval from the Council for the Development of Cambodia on June 10, 2020. It will cover a total of 150,000 square metres. The company will invest around $139.5million in the facility. Vattanac Brewery plans to start production in 2021 with a capacity of 76 million boxes of beer per year.

The company will be recruiting local and foreign personnel with knowledge, experience and skill in beer production and business management. The brewery anticipates employing 1,500 staff when it is fully operational.

It will also generate many indirect jobs, thereby helping increase tax revenues for the government and promoting the development of agriculture, agro-industry and many other sectors in Cambodia. Sam Ang Vattanac, executive director of Vattanac Properties Ltd, said with the Cambodia Industrial Development Policy 2015-2025 introduced by the Cambodia Government, the industrial sector has been playing an increasingly important role in promoting national economic growth. Seeing the potential in the beverage market and the opportunity presented by the government’s development policy, he said Vattanac Brewery has committed itself to investing in the construction of the brewery, he said.

“Even in the current uncertain business climate caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project will proceed as planned, showing the commitment and confidence of the shareholders in the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the government’s efforts to improve and grow the country’s economy.  This investment comes from personal and local funds,” he added.

“With many decades of experience in brewing and distributing beer in Cambodia, the shareholders of Vattanac Brewery Ltd are committed to establishing a high quality brewery with good service,” Vattanac said. “We are confident that the brewery will meet the needs of the Cambodian consumers who appreciate quality products and services. The high-quality beer will be exported overseas and enable Cambodian beer to be known around the world,” he added

Heng Sokkung, secretary of state at the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, said all the investment, especially the conglomerate and high standards of Vattanac Brewery, is a good investment for Cambodia.

He said that the company is a quality company in terms of its products and buildings. Sokkung added that the government has considered this company as a zero polluter regarding industrial waste and has high standards of employment. “This is the big investment that will create 1,000 jobs [initially] for local people in the first stage, and it will also contribute tax revenue to the government,” Sokkung added. “It will also source raw materials locally, which will benefit farmers and the agro-industry, so it will boost the national economy and create job, and link small industry with large industry,” he added. In addition to Vattanac Brewery, the company is developing a new satellite city called Vattanacville, adjoining Vattanac Golf  Resort, on over 1,000 hectares of land. It will become a new iconic city in Cambodia, featuring luxurious and modern residences, commercial areas with office and retail spaces and an internationally accredited school.

The city’s sustainable development will focus on quality, comfortable and environmentally friendly living. Vattanac Group has numerous subsidiary companies in key sectors such as Vattanac Bank, Vattanac Capital, Rosewood hotel in Phnom Penh, Vattanac Golf Resort, Vattanac F&B and Vattanac Investment Co Ltd. Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation spokesman Heng Sokkung said the project comes after the success of the company’s first brewery, which produces brands such as Tiger and Heineken.
