The Ministry of Economy and Finance launched on Wednesday the “Startup Cambodia” National Programme providing ecosystem to the startup communities through the digital platforms.

The launching ceremony was held under the presidency of Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, along with the participation of representatives from relevant ministries/institutions and stakeholders in the startup ecosystem.

The programme, organised by Techo Startup Centre and Khmer Enterprise is aimed to connect all stakeholders together as a startup ecosystem and strengthen cooperation with each other through community-based programmes and digital platforms and to collaborate in the incubation of startups by providing mutual support in the startup ecosystem through co-creation mechanisms.

It is also intended to provide comprehensive and scientific information related to startups, entrepreneurship, and the whole startup ecosystem through digital platforms; and to prepare a national platform to hook up with similar programmes in other countries such as Startup Singapore, Startup Vietnam, Startup Thailand, etc., to push and establish a framework for international cooperation with regional and global countries.

The programme is also to support the “Cambodia Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021-2035” which was recently launched in May 2021, with the aim of building a digital economy to become a new economic growth driver as well as building an ecosystem that increases productivity and economic efficiency, and to promote the well-being of the people in the Cambodian digital society.

Additionally, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic where people minimise face-to-face meeting, doing business in Cambodia as well as in other countries around the world is beginning to evolve to a new level with technology at the core of services provision or goods production, the ministry said.

“To support the aforementioned policy framework and respond to the context of the new normal of doing business, the Royal Government of Cambodia through the Ministry of Economy and Finance, launched the “Startup Cambodia” National Programme organised by Techo Startup Centre and Khmer Enterprise,” added the ministry.
