The General Department of Policy of the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced its plans and goals for the Preah Sihanouk Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Officials from the department held a meeting to discuss the master plan and goals for the Preah Sihanouk SEZ on the afternoon of November 12. In attendance in the meeting were the Provincial Governor of Preah Sihanouk, Kouch Chamroeun, and the Deputy Director General of the General Department of Policy and Project Director of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Chea Kok Hong, and officials from five municipal administrations.

Governor Chamroeun, expressed his support for the preparation of a master plan for the development. The master plan will transform the province into a multi-purpose model special economic zone, and will be leaning towards sustainable development in all sectors.  The Governor continued that the master plan is a strategic plan and long-term vision to turn Preah Sihanouk City into a smart and green city.

“We need to work together to integrate key tasks such as assessing the geographical situation, establishing a framework for locating areas, and launching action plans to implement each phase in a stable manner.”, the Governor said.

Director Kok Hang said that the multi-purpose special economic zone policy is defined as commercial, industrial, residential and tourist areas. The policy also aims to attract more investors into the business and other sectors of the province to ensure that it has the potential to be sustainable.
