The General Secretariat of the Commercial Gambling Management Commission of Cambodia (CGMC) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has appealed against online football betting and other types of investment in commercial gambling with OL Group or OL Football Club, according to an announcement.

CGMC has never granted licence to OL Group to run any commercial gambling in Cambodia and rejected any promotions or advertisement that says the company is a legal commercial gambling firm that has been operating in providing football betting online and attracting the public to invest with it, it said.

“As mentioned above, the public and relevant individuals are, please, be notified and pay attention,” the announcement pointed out, adding the activities OL Group that that CGMC has found being promoted on social media channels are illegal.

OL Football Club or Cambodia recently announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of Cambodia has approved French firm’s entry into the Kingdom to operate the illegal commercial gambling business and promoted that interesting people can join the generation of income with it through its Telegram channel.

The company released a statement saying Cambodia’s foreign affairs ministry approved its entrance to the Kingdom and that the Royal Government of Cambodia allowed OL Group to promote and develop in the region, “OL Group must comply with the laws and regulations of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which has the right to investigate all tax data,” OL Group stated.

OL Group promoted to the public through its Facebook page that the generation of extra income with the company would improve the standard of living. “You can register for a trial, but you will have to be self-responsible for any possible risk that could happen in the future, eventually,” the promotion says.

However, the Foreign Affairs Ministry on Monday issued an official statement to announce its dismissal of OL Group’s announcement. The ministry said the company has used the ministry’s logo and stamp. “The ministry has never issued this letter or permission for this company to run business in Cambodia,” it said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations also urged relevant competent authorities to launch an investigation and take legal actions against the company to stop its activities as quickly as possible, the statement added.
