The Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport project has so far achieved over 60 percent, and the investment firm has been committed to complete the construction before October this year.

The update was shared in a meeting held on Jan. 9 to review the project achievements in 2022 and set forth objectives foe 2023, under the chairmanship of Tekreth Samrach, Minister Delegate Attached the Prime Minister and Secretary of State of the Office of the Council of Ministers.

The whole construction was 63 percent complete as of the end of 2022, behind the 70 percent as planned, the company said in the meeting, explaining the delay by the disruption to the import of construction materials from China due to the Covid-19 crisis.

The company said that it will accelerate the work to reach 90 percent of construction plan by March this year.

Speaking at the meeting, Tekreth Samrach appreciated the Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. (AIAI) for its high attention to the construction while the world is facing crisis.

“With today’s achievements, we can assess that we have successfully passed the most difficult time of the project implementation. Only little work remained to be done by the end of March 2023 and the inauguration is expected to be held in October 2023,” he said.

Built under the 55-year build-operate-transfer (BOT) format, the construction of Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport began in March 2020 by AIAI with an investment capital of approximately $880 million.
