A medical mask and glove factory in Krakor district, Pursat province, is set to be operational by the end of October in order to supply domestic and foreign demand in the prevention of spreading COVID-19.

According to Krakor district governor Liu Senghim, a company that has invested in a medical mask and glove factory in Krakor district will open and start production very soon, bringing more jobs to the area.

As of 2020, there were more than 5,000 businesses in Pursat province, including 136 factories with more than 10,000 workers. Apart from this, there are many other businesses such as rice mills, as well as many kilns for production, exportation and local supply.

The Cambodian government recently approved a request from the Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia (GMAC) and encouraged garment factories to produce all kinds of face masks, medical equipment and protective clothing for both domestic consumption and exportation.

Because masks, medical equipment and protective clothing are being sought after by people around the world to help curb the COVID-19 pandemic, the government supports and encourages factories to produce these much needed products, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s letter sent to the GMAC president.

He added that the factory is in need of more than 3,000 workers to run the production line of masks and gloves to support the request of the government.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has asked some factories and enterprises operating in Cambodia to participate in the production of masks for all Cambodians to use, because the price of imported masks is high and they are also difficult to source.

As of Aug 31, 2020, Cambodia’s COVID-19 Cases stand at 274 with 266 of those cases being cured.
