Makro Cambodia Co. Ltd. officially opened its third supermarket – Makro Chroy Changva – in the Chroy Changva district, which has been a hotbed of both borey developments and modern high-rise condominiums.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Lieutenant General Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army.

He lauded Makro for its steady growth and opening of the third branch in Chroy Changvar, which is the result of the ability, hard work and proactive spirit, professionalism and high responsibility of all management and staff of the company.

He said the opening of the new branch reflected the economic development in Cambodia.

“Makro’s growth has contributed significantly to the process of socio-economic development of Cambodia and the community, especially providing job opportunities to the people of Cambodia, as well as many other benefits to local and related businesses,” Manet said.

The company employs up to 98 percent of Cambodian employees and sells up to 90 percent of local products. Manet said it is providing job opportunities and professional capacity building to the people, including income, and supporting business processes, especially opening opportunities for local producers to compete in the market.

Manet also attributed the new investment to the peace and stability being maintained by the government.

Such investment expansion demonstrates the confidence of investors in Cambodia’s macroeconomic, political and social stability as the country is recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, he added.

“Through favourable conditions of peace, people who are investors, businessmen, traders, both domestic and foreign, can focus on their projects or activities, investment, business and trade with confidence and mental well-being is stable without worries,” he said.

Cambodia’s economy has grown remarkably fast, and the country has evolved from a poor country to a low-middle-income country in 2015 and is on the verge of becoming a high-middle-income country in 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.

The third Makro supermarket is estimated to cost $12.7 million.

The third Makro is located in the Bak Khaeng subdistrict, the same area where the Morodok Techo National Stadium is, and the WorldBridges Sport Village, the first-ever sports village in Cambodia and the designated venue for the upcoming SEA Games 2023.
