The Federation of Associations of Small and Medium Enterprises of Cambodia (FASMEC) is seeking to establish small and medium enterprise (SME) parks in each province across the country aiming at promoting local agricultural products processing.
Te Taingpor, president of FASMEC told Khmer Times that the association is seeking between 20 to 30 hectares of land in each province for SME industrial parks and is already having discussion with seven provinces.
He said three provinces, including Pusat, Kandal and Tbong Khmum is agreeable to establish this SME clusters.
“I am traveling to the provinces across the country to hold workshops, raising the awareness among the entrepreneurs and to gather local producers in one place, so we are able to process our agricultural products for export” he said adding that this will help reduce migration from provinces to the city and neighbouring provinces as well.
Worldbridge Industrial Developments announced in September of plans to establish a $30 million Worldbridge SME (small and medium enterprise) Cluster in Takhmao city of Kandal province, and is is seen as an innovative and strategic solution for SMEs and industrial development in Cambodia.
Cambodia currently has been lacking in local agricultural products processing and the country sends most of its raw material to neighbouring countries.
According to the Industrial Development Policy (IDP) 2015-2025, the government’s vision is to transform and modernise Cambodia’s industrial structure from a labour intensive industry to a skill-driven industry by 2025, through connecting to regional and global value chain; integrating into regional production networks and developing interconnected production clusters along with efforts to strengthen competitiveness and enhance productivity of domestic industries.
