Cambodia has stressed the need to have law or regulation on doing business on audio-video industry in foreign countries, especially in the ASEAN Plus Three region.

“With the law and regulation, copy-rights and relate-rights will be protected, the media contents will be used properly and seriously according to law and regulation of the sending and receiving countries, and the governments would be able to control and combat fake news which are currently spreading globally throughout online platform and social media,” Dr. Sok Prasith, Secretary of State, Ministry of Information of Cambodia, in a video speech at the ASEAN Plus Three Forum on Online Audio-Video Industry under the topic “Policy and Regulation for Online Audio-Video Industry”, organised by the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) of China.

At the time being, he continued, Cambodia had a few law and regulations for monitoring media operation and business in Cambodia. The media law on Press Regime was adopted in 1995 and now is under reviewed by the Ministry of Information while the Law on Access to Information is drafted with full hope that it will be enacted to become law very soon.

“Cambodia is also in dire need of supports for media law amendment and new law drafting process. This forum is also my invaluable opportunity to request China and our friendly countries to support Cambodia in these fields,” he said.

Dr. Prasith expressed his gratitude to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the forever and wholehearted supports to the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia. The Ministry of Information of Cambodia highly appreciates the dynamic improvement of media bilateral cooperation with Chinese counterparts such as; the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), TV and Radio Guangxi, China Radio International (CRI), Yunnan Communication Media Group Co., Ltd., China Central Television (CCTV), Yunnan TV, China International Cooperation Centre (CICC), China Guangxi TV (CGTV), Xinhua News Agency and so on, he added.

“The recent achievements of our Ministry’s efforts in building close cooperation with China is the cooperation in the framework of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation. For 2019 and 2020, our Ministry won 3 projects and we hope to get more projects for 2021 as we have already submitted 7 project proposals to the MLC,” he said. C. Nika – AKP
