The Customs and Excise Department has vowed to step up inspections of imported frozen meat and other frozen food products to ensure they are not infested with Covid-19.

Kun Nhem, Minister attached to Prime Minister in Charge of the General Department of Customs and Excise and Director-General of General Department of Customs and Excise said yesterday that he planned to issue a statement on measures to check and prevent the spread of Covid-19 on frozen meat imports and other frozen goods entering the Kingdom

He said that they have been checking all imported frozen goods ever since the Covid-19 outbreak and until today all the samples taken showed no traces of the virus and it is safe for consumption.

“We have also decided to waive the requirement for a certificate or certificate stating that there is no Covid-19 virus issued by the export authority,” he added.

He added that in the face of cold and frozen goods imported from neighbouring countries, the Customs and Excise officials will continue their stringent checks and implement strict sanitation and health measures by spraying disinfectants on packaging and transportation to ensure their safety.
