Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, has been appointed as Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Commission

The government has formed an inter-ministerial commission to accelerate the implementation of the expressway infrastructure project connecting Phnom Penh to Bavet city.

The expressway infrastructure project connecting Phnom Penh to Bavet has been proposed for investment by China Road and Bridge Corporation under the framework of build-operate-transfer basic, said a statement.

Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport, has been appointed as Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Commission, according to the statement signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Eighteen other senior officials from relevant ministries have been appointed as three deputy chairmen and 15 members.

The inter-ministerial committee is tasked to review and advise on the procedures, legal framework and overall view of the investment in the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway infrastructure project and to promote the highway project to be completed to contribute to accelerating the development of the Phnom Penh Bavet city corridor.

In addition, the commission is also asked to report on the results of work to the head of the Royal Government through the Office of the Council of Ministers.

At present, Cambodia has the sole expressway connecting the Capital and deepsea port city of Sihanoukville, in the southwestern of the country.

The expressway is scheduled to be put into use for a free-of-charge trial in October for a month-long in order to raise awareness to the public on the use of the $2-billion worth expressway.
