Ride-hailing and delivery app operator Grab is expanding in Cambodia, opening a new office in Phnom Penh’s Tuol Kork district. The Singapore-headquartered company said the building will more than double its office space allowing it to better serve drivers and partner companies.

Grab said the decision to expand was driven by the government’s successful vaccination campaign, which has allowed the country to get back to business.

More than 86 percent of the population has received two doses of Covid-19 vaccine and the government recently reopened the country to fully vaccinated foreigners without the need to quarantine.

“The whole world has taken something of a forced break during Covid-19,” said Grab Cambodia Country Manager Corentin Rouxel. “However, thanks to the effective leadership of the Cambodian government, the country looks set to rebound. We at Grab are very optimistic about Cambodia’s future, which is why we are excited to continue with our expansion plans,” he said.

Grab was active in providing Covid protection for drivers and customers during the pandemic, Rouxel said.

“We have distributed over a million face masks to driver-partners across the region, have supported governments’ vaccination programs, and have promoted cashless payments to limit contact between consumers and driver-partners. We have also provided financial assistance, insurance and income protection for our driver-partners in case of quarantine or hospitalization,” he said. “Now, with Covid-19 having been successfully managed in Cambodia, it is time to move on to the next stage and help the country recover and reach new heights.”

Grab has been operating in the country since 2017 and has worked with the government on a variety of projects. It teamed up with the Transport Ministry to promote road safety and worked with the Anti-Corruption Unit to ensure fair practices were being followed in the business world.

Grab also collaborated with Impact Hub to grow Cambodia’s startup ecosystem through discussions on building the cities of the future and setting up an urban mobility incubator and donated money to the Kantha Bopha children’s hospital.

Grab was founded in 2012 and now offers services in more than 400 cities in eight countries in Southeast-Asia.
