The Water Festival holidays are seeing an influx of visitors and tourists to provinces across the country, a good sign that the Kingdom is returning to normalcy after the almost two years of pandemic slowdown in all sectors, especially tourism.

Yesterday, a total of 132,013 tourists and locals were recorded to have gone out into provinces or visiting places, of whom 130,002 were locals and the rest foreigners.

According to the Ministry of Tourism Facebook page, the first day of the Water Festival saw more than 130,000 people including tourists visiting places and the number is expected to increase today and tomorrow.

Some of the provinces that recorded an increase in tourists were Preah Sihanouk Province (18,073),  Kampot Province (15,840), Siem Reap (15,260), Kep (12,880),  Mondulkiri (10,010) and Pursat ( 9,568).

Minister of Tourism, Thong Khon said there is definitely a flow of tourists visiting places across the Kingdom including boosting the cultural tourism, eco-tourism, agro-tourism and the family-friendly resorts.

“According to our preliminary estimates, the number of domestic and international tourists visiting tourist sites are expected to increase in the coming days,” he added.

“The Provincial Administration and the Department of Tourism have made efforts to strengthen the implementation of the 3 dos and 3 don’ts  in the prevention of Covid-19. The Ministry of Tourism has put in place all safety and health measures to ensure there is no spread of coronavirus,” he said, adding that the people should also cooperate with the authorities and take all precautions, including producing their vaccination cards.
