Rabbit Island development investment, the $130 million worth multiple resort project located in Koh Tonsay island, 4 km offshore of Kep province, has moved into construction activities, as the company started to transport construction materials to the island.

The Rabbit Island investment project is owned by Try Pheap Group.

The official ground breaking ceremony of the project was held on September 22, said Vao Sokha, deputy governor of Kep province.

The investment project obtained a license from the Council for the Development of Cambodia in February 2019.

Covered over 180 hectares, the project includes five star hotels, residential zone, commercial zone, casino, bungalow, sport on beach, public place, transportation – boat, cable car.

The company project covers 184 hectares of land on the island, but the company develops on only 140 hectares and the rest is for local residents and the administration office of local authorities, he said on Wednesday.

“Koh Tonsay is a potential island for attracting tourism. We have a sandy white beach around the island. This will attract tourists to visit the island,” Sokha said.

The resort investment project contributes to the development and investment in Kep province, he said.

However, he did not mention the timeframe of completion of the construction. He said the project is developed into many sections.

Before Try Pheap Group, the government granted investment licenses to two companies to develop on the island, but the licenses have been revoked as the companies did nothing on the area.

The government is planning to build a tourism port on the Tonsay island to facilitate the travel of local residents and tourists.
