A virtual meeting on the draft Swiss Mekong Region Cooperation Programme 2022-2025 was conducted on June 3.

Chhieng Yanara, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of Cambodian Rehabilitation and Development Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CRDB)  led the Cambodian contingent. Swiss Markus Buerli, Director of Cooperation of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) headed the Swiss discussion team.

The Swiss government has planned to provide up to $13 million per year for the 2022-2025 period in grants to support the implementation of this new cooperation programme in Cambodia.

The meeting sought inputs from concerned participating ministries and agencies on the draft program focusing on governance and citizen’s participation, inclusive economic development, climate change and natural resource management.

The two sides also exchanged appreciation for past cooperation and look forward to the finalisation and implementation of the programme.

According to data provided by the Cambodia Cooperation Financing Database, Switzerland provided a total of $142 million in grand funding for development projects in Cambodia between 2002 and 2020.
