Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Thailand was valued at $5,569 million up to the third quarter of this year, a year-on-year decrease of 19 percent compared to the same period last year.

Figures from Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce show that from January to September, Cambodia exported US$958 million to Thailand, sliding down 48 percent.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom’s total imports from Thailand decreased by 9 percent, to $4,611 million.

The decrease in the two-way trade between both neighbouring countries was largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic which caused trouble for cross-border goods transport.

Panyarak Poolthup, Thai Ambassador to Cambodia, said that in the situation of COVID-19 pandemic, trade between the two countries has been strained as border crossings have been tightened, making it difficult for the flow of goods between the two countries.

But Cambodia’s investment potential still remain for Thai investors and businesses, he stressed in the disaster relief donation ceremony from the Royal Thai Embassy to the National Committee for Disaster Management on Oct. 21, 2020.

In terms of investment, even though the world has been being affected by COVID-19, Thai companies in Cambodia have continued their normal production chains, he said, adding that many Thai companies and businesses have sought investment opportunities in Cambodia. Chea Vannak – AKP
